CARLOS SESSLER

Acupuncture Physician & Neuromuscular Reintegration Therapist

After high school, I earned an Associate's Degree in Physical Therapy, but life took me in a different direction and I spent the next 12 years of my life working as a personal assistant to the CEO of a television company. Upon his untimely passing, I was faced with the task of finding a new career. Turning my attention back to health, I decided to become a licensed massage therapist.

Working on people through bodywork made me want to help at a deeper level. It was this desire which lead me to Oriental Medicine. In 2008, I started studying Traditional Chinese Medicine at Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine. Realizing I wanted to learn more about the Mind, Body, Spirit connection of this medicine, I completed my education at Academy for Five Element Acupuncture earning a Master's Degree in Acupuncture and a certification in Chinese Herbal Studies.

Since then, I have worked with Academy for Five Element Acupuncture assisting with clinical supervision and point location. I have also created and managed Points of Wellness Acupuncture here in Gainesville, FL. My specialties include Sports Acupuncture, anxiety and stress management, Acupuncture Injection Therapy, and Fertility.

DEETA WIDMER ADKINS

Acupuncture Physician & Structural Integration Therapist

In my 26 year career in acupuncture and over 34 years of experience in structural integration massage therapy, I have developed a focus on injury recovery, sports acupuncture, post-surgical recovery, scar management, and assisting people in making significant improvements with chronic issues and their health. The powerful effects of acupuncture, coupled with a background in deep tissue work, has allowed me to assist patients in resetting and improving chronic pain patterns and postural issues, as well as helping relieve discomfort due to surgical scaring.

My passion is the connection between musculature and the fascial chains of the body, and helping correct the dysfunctions that can happen between them. I enjoy collaborating with patients going through cancer treatments. I’ve had extensive training in the use of nutrition, supplementation and acupuncture to help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

I am passionate and empathetic about my patients' well-being and their journey to wellness. My specialties include Sports Acupuncture, scar tissue and post-surgical recovery, cancer treatment support, and Connective Tissue Therapy.

ERICA WILLIAMS

Clinic Coordinator

I joined the team in the summer of 2018. I graduated with a degree in Associates of Science for Medical Office Administration with a track of billing and coding, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree for Healthcare Administration because of my interest in the healthcare industry and my obsession with organization. I love connecting with people, and I am a firm believer in a positive attitude and a smiling face. Laughter is music to my ears!

My past three years with Bodies In Balance Acupuncture have been a joyous experience. I enjoy helping our patients with their scheduling needs, and I’m honored to be a part of the BIBA team as it continues to thrive.

Looking forward to meeting you!

RYAN CALLAHAN

Massage Therapist, MA 95856

I began my career in Massage Therapy in 2008 after graduating from the Florida School of Massage. I have focused on bringing my clients back to full capability through deep-tissue and neuromuscular techniques. After working for just a few short years, I decided to take a break and switch roles by joining the US military. Once my time had ended, I resumed my massage practice, but realized that I wanted to help people on a deeper level. This led me to getting my bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at the College of Charleston.

I am now currently attending the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in Gainesville and interning under the masterful therapists of Bodies In Balance Acupuncture. My goal is to be able to work with all patients from multiple angles of health and wellness. I am excited to come aboard and continue my passion for helping people!

DR. DORoTHY S. WELLS

DOCTOR OF ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE MEDICINE

Years ago, I suffered from severe chronic migraines. As a busy young mother, I didn’t have time to be sick! Conventional medical treatment was helpful in ruling out a serious condition, but beyond that, pharmaceutical prescriptions just made me feel worse. This led me to explore many interesting healing modalities, and I realized that true healing is a journey.  My entry into the healing profession was the study of Acupuncture and Chinese medicine.  Functional Medicine caught my interest because of its focus on finding the root cause of pain and illness using modern methods.

My educational background includes a doctorate from Pacific College of Health and Science in San Diego, where my studies focused on integrative medicine. Prior to becoming a licensed Acupuncture Physician in Florida, I earned a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine.  I have a special interest in women’s health, and I became board-certified as a reproductive acupuncturist by the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM). I became a certified Functional Medicine practitioner after studying at the Kalish Institute.

After many years of successfully treating patients in my acupuncture practice in Miami Beach, I moved back to my hometown of Gainesville, Florida, where I’m thrilled to join the Bodies in Balance Acupuncture team.  My specialties include women’s health and fertility, gut health, stress and anxiety, and chronic conditions such as migraine.
